Choluteca is the only city in Honduras situated both by the Pan-American Highway and the Inter-Oceanic Corridor that will connect the Pacific ports of La Unión (El Salvador), Henecán (Honduras) and Corinto (Nicaragua) with the Caribbean ports of Puerto Cortés (Honduras) and Puerto Barrios (Guatemala).
An international airport is being planned; meanwhile Choluteca has an airstrip suitable for private planes
Easy 2 hour drive north to the capital city Tegucigalpa with a major international airport. To the west is the border with El Salvador at Amatillo. To the east is the border with Nicaragua at El Espino and Guasaule.
